Councillor Vacancies

Following on from the non-contested Parish Election in June, Poynings Parish Council has a vacancy for two Councillors and is looking to Co-Opt shortly.

If you wish to express an interest, please contact myself, or Councillors John Digby, Mike Crowther or Neville Searle.

It does not take up a lot of time with a meeting every other month and the occasional one in between.

I have had a few enquiries about the loss of the analogue telephone line when switching to Fibre to the premises. 

When you switch, your old analogue line will be disconnected, and telephone calls will come via the internet. This means that you will not be able to use the telephone in the case of a power cut.

Most people have “mobile” handsets nowadays and although the handset has a battery, the base unit hasn’t, so they can’t be used in a power cut either. So, unless you still have a “corded” phone it won’t work in a power cut now.

Openreach are planning to turn off the analogue system at the end of 2025, and all phones will go through the internet line then.

If you are vulnerable and have a poor mobile signal, your provider should supply a back up power supply for emergencies, free of charge, to keep your phone working for about an hour. You will have to ask.
