Road Works by Ginger Fox.

West Sussex County Council is proposing to carry out local safety works A281 between Clappers Lane and B2117 Junctions in Poynings, with the primary focus of improvement works at the A281/B2117 Poynings Crossways Junction. The works will include:

  • Replace signs on all 4 approaches to junction
  • Replace and improve chevron signing on the junction bend.
  • Recover & Place New ‘SLOW’ on approach.
  • Provide New 40mph Speed Limit from Clappers Lane junction through site junction (approx. 1km in length).
  • Vegetation clearance and branch clearing activities.
  • Extension of High Friction Surfacing on the westbound approach to address ‘harsh braking’ site.
  • Replacement of 2No Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) on the A281.

The scheme originates from concerns raised regarding the number of road traffic collisions at the junction of the A281/ B2117 Poynings Crossways.  Improving the visibility of the junction, signing and reduction in speed limit will help to reduce the number of recorded injury collisions.

The works will be carried out from 8th to the 30th September 2025. It is anticipated most will be undertaken Mondays to Fridays between 07.30 and 17.30hrs with temporary traffic signals in place. The resurfacing and road marking works will take place overnight during the week commencing the 22nd September.
