Park all day in Mid Sussex this Christmas for £1

Christmas shoppers can park all day in Burgess Hill, East Grinstead and Haywards Heath for just £1 on the Saturdays leading up to Christmas this December.

Mid Sussex District Council has reduced the cost of parking to just £1 in specific long stay car parks to encourage people to shop locally and support local traders.
Parking on Sundays is already free and it will cost just £1 to park in the Franklynn Road car park in Haywards Heath, Queens Crescent and Station Road car parks in Burgess Hill and the Vicarage or Norton House car parks in East Grinstead on Saturdays too throughout December.

“Christmas is the most important time of the year for most local retailers and we are showing them our support by dropping Saturday parking charges to just £1 all day in the run up to Christmas,” said Councillor Gary Marsh, Cabinet Member for Service Delivery.

“Popping into town is a quick and convenient way to pick up gifts for friends and family so please show your support for local traders this Christmas by shopping in your local town or village.

“I hope this encourages even more people to shop locally and attracts shoppers from other areas to visit Mid Sussex.”

Short stay car parks in East Grinstead and Haywards Heath will also be free after 1pm on the day of the Christmas light switch-on events. To support these events you will not have to pay during the afternoon on Saturday 25th November at:

The Orchards, Haywards Heath

Hazelgrove, Haywards Heath

Haywards East, Haywards Heath

Gower Road, Haywards Heath

Haywards West, Haywards Heath

Queensway, East Grinstead

Kings Street, East Grinstead

Chequer Mead, East Grinstead

Christopher Road, East Grinstead

The light switch on events are free and will feature fun for all the family with the opportunity to sing carols and meet Pantomime Characters in East Grinstead or visit Mickey Mouse and Father Christmas on his sleigh, pulled by real reindeer, in Haywards Heath.

Road Works in the village this week.

County Clean, a sewage/road work company, have commenced work near the Royal Oak to connect nearby houses to main drainage.

The excavation will be near the centre of the road which will be severely restricted.  The contractor has been advised that The Street

has a variety of large vehicles that need to pass this narrow section of road.  The contractor will assist by pulling in their site fencing where necessary.

The roadworks will be staffed during the day and the fencing pulled close in overnight.  The work will be finished by Friday.

The Parish Council were not given any notice of the work commencing.

Holiday home for our dog

We have just lost our lovely holiday dog minders due to illness. We are looking for home boarding for our dog Wolfie, rated as perfect by our previous minders. He gets on well with other dogs, and is quiet at home. If you know anyone who offers this service, could you email on gilder6646@aol.com or phone Chris on 552 . We would never put him in kennels and are anxious to find a new holiday home for him. Thanks Chris

We need your Help!

Complete our survey to help improve your broadband speed to Poynings and surrounding areas.

Although the broadband to the BT box in Poynings is fibre, it is only copper from there to your house. The further away from the Street Cabinet (next to Poynings Village Hall) you are, the poorer the signal you will receive.

To check your internet speed, go to www.speedtest.net. It should be done with your computer connected directly to the router. If you check it on a wireless connection it may give a false reading if the speed to your house is good but the Wi-Fi poor.

To help put pressure on the provider we need to find out what speeds people are receiving so we can show that it is not as fast as is claimed. Could you complete the short questionnaire below to help us.
