Henfield Parking Charges

Annual Parking Disc

From Monday 3 April 2017 Horsham DC are introducing a new parking charge policy for the market town and village car parks within the district.

They are introducing an Annual Parking Disc that entitles you to park in all HDC market town and village car parks for just £12 per year (23p per week) for the first disc and £6 each for any additional discs, with a maximum of 4 per household.

The new £12 Annual Parking Disc will allow you to park for the maximum stay permitted in all the car parks. This excludes Horsham town centre and Southwater Country Park. These are for use Monday – Saturday only. No parking restrictions apply on Sundays & Bank Holidays.

Special Offer
– for a limited time only. You can purchase the new Annual Parking Disc and to get your 2nd disc FREE before 30 April

Pondtail Wood Update Bulletin – 27 March 2017

SDNPA

We can confirm that the Pondtail Wood site, subject to a planning Enforcement Notice, (EN) and forestry Restocking Notice, has now been sold.  The existing owner has chosen to withdraw his appeal against the EN and we have issued a revised EN to take account of the fact that the requirement to restock the trees is subject to separate legislation and Restocking Notice (still in place) to be pursued by the Forestry Commission.

The amended EN also provides the new owner six months to remove the waste from the site. Such a timescale is considered to be both reasonable and achievable for the new owner. In any case, the site cannot be restocked with trees until the new planting season commences in autumn.

We believe this is a positive outcome for the National Park, providing certainty for the future management of the planning breach – not only has the appeal been withdrawn but the new owner, along with the former owner of the site, have signed an agreement with the SDNPA that they will not lodge any challenges to the amended EN.

Had the site owner chosen instead to continue with the planning Inquiry this level of certainty could not have been guaranteed. Whilst we consider our case to be strong in planning terms, there is always the risk that the appeal Inspector could not have found in our favour.

We consider this to be a good outcome and look forward to working with the new site owner to restore the site in accordance with the requirements of the amended Enforcement Notice.

Village litter picking Cancelled

Due to it being Mothers day on Sunday, this weeks litter picking has reluctantly been cancelled.

Do not despair, it will be done next Sunday, April 2nd. Same time, same place. Full details below.

Join the Great British Spring Clean in Poynings on Sunday April 2nd at 11:00. We want to clear the Poynings streets of all litter. Our plan is to have two small groups, one beginning at the western village boundary of The Street,  and the second starting at the roundabout. We’ll include Mill Lane, the Causeway and Church Lane as far as Saddlescombe Road. It shouldn’t take long – maximum 2 hours. Volunteers please register with John Digby (johndigby@saffronstar.co.uk). Places are strictly limited, so hurry to avoid disappointment!  10 lucky volunteers will be suitably kitted out,  with litter pickers,  gloves, hi-vis tabards, bags and bag hoops, and we have tubs of antibacterial handwipes should they be needed. We plan to have someone in front of the pickers and someone behind to manage traffic at all times. Pickers will be rewarded with biscuits and juice for children and a pint for adults.

Gather at Dyke Farm House at 11:00 Sunday April 2nd.

This is a Poynings Parish Council initiative.

The Villages Read

Over the hill in Brighton they have “The City Reads”. Now we have the “Downland Villages Read”

We will be holding a “meet the author” evening later this summer, as a fundraiser for local churches, but in the meantime we invite all villagers in Edburton, Fulking, Newtimber, Poynings and Pyecombe to read the book.
Maybe if you are in a book group you could choose it as your next read.

Belonging  by Umi Sinha has been chosen for this inaugural event. It is partly set in a small Sussex village in a fold of the South Downs and I am sure that you will all recognise the locations it describes in Sussex.
This fascinating book tells the interwoven story of three generations, from the time of the British Raj to the aftermath of the First World War, and their struggles to understand and free themselves from a troubled history steeped in colonial violence. This is a novel of secrets that unwind through Lila Langdon’s story of exile to England, through her grandmother Cecily’s letters home from India, and through the diaries kept by her father, Henry, as he puzzles over the enigma of his birth and his stormy marriage to the mysterious Rebecca.
Umi was born in India and moved to England when she was fifteen and manages to bring the settings both in India and Sussex alive.

Pondtail Wood Appeal Hearing

“Please come and join a protest demo to show our concern at 9.30am on Tuesday 4th April outside the Pondtail Wood hearing at Mid Sussex District Council building at Oaklands Road, Haywards Heath, West Sussex, RH16 1SS!

We should be there before the start of the hearing, to make sure they know we care and we won’t give up on restoring Pondtail Wood! The hearing is at 10am.

Do come along even if it is only for 30 mins to show your support. The owner has good representation at the hearing and the people who make the decisions need to know that there is a strong local opposition.

Let me know if you want a lift or if you can offer a lift as parking isn’t brilliant.”
